SEN. JIBRIN ISAH SUPPORTS THE NIGERIA GOLD RESERVES BILL
Sen Echocho unreserved contribution, support and opinion to the bill, NIGERIA GOLD RESERVES, sponsored by Sen. Natasha H Akpoti-Uduaghan
The Senator representing Kogi East and Chairman Senate Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff, Sen Isah Jibrin (Echocho), today during the plenary session contributed excellently to the bill sponsor by Sen H Akpoti, which passed second reading at the Senate.
Sen Isah Jibrin in his Contribution explained extensively the important of the bill and it’s contribution to Nigeria economic development. In his words, he says “I believe that this is the type of bill we need to turn around the fortune of this country, when we’re talking of thinking out of the box.
It’s one of such bills, then going further, I want to believe that the strength of our naira is today determined by our foreign exchange reserves, bringing this bill on board and enhancing the utilisation of the gold reserves in Nigeria will beef up the strength of our currency because that will invariably increase our foreign exchange reserve.
Whatever shortcomings there maybe in the bill as it stand today, I believe that it should pass through second reading, whatever further comments that maybe required from the public, will be handled at the public hearing.
I want to believe that the CBN will have a lot of comments they want to pass on this, I equally want to believe that the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals, will have so many comments on this, I equally believe that the Federal Ministry of Finance will have a lot of comments on this, but as it stands today, I believe that this bill should pass second reading” he concluded.
