Below is the tribute of Senator Dr. Alex Usman Kadiri he read in the hallowed Red Chamber of the Nigeria Senate:

TRIBUTE TO SENATOR ( DR.) ALEX USMAN KADIRI, WHO DIED ON THURSDAY, 27TH JUNE, 2024.

SENATOR (DR.) ALEX USMAN KADIRI was born in Odu-Ogboyaga, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State on the 21st of June 1942 to the family of Mallam Abdulkadir Agbali Oyidi.

He attended LEA School, Odu-Ogboyaga (1953-1957); QIM School, Aloma (1958-1958); LEA School, Dekina (1959-1961); Provincial Secondary School, Okene (1962-1966); Govt. Secondary School, Maiduguri (1967-1968), and then proceeded to the University of Ibadan, Ibadan (1969-1973) from where he obtained BSc. in Physiology and Human Antomy with flying colours, and was admitted into the University of Leeds, England for a doctoral programme, where he obtained PhD in Physiology 1977.

He worked at the Central Bank of Nigeria, Kaduna as a Currency Clerk (1969), before venturing into Lecturing at the University of Benin from 1973-1992, rising through the ranks from Assistant Lecturer to Senior Lecturer. He served as Commissioner of Health and also Commissioner of Works and Transport in Benue State in 1984 and 1985 respectively. He was Director of Administration at the National University Commission (1989-1990), and then served as Director General/Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Abuja (1990-1994).

Senator Dr. Alex Usman Kadiri was elected Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, representing the good people of Kogi East from 1999-2003. While in the senate he served in the following Standing Committees; Petroleum Resources; Army and Defense; Steel and Metallurgy; Ethics, Privileges & Petitions; Women Affairs & Youth Development and Standing Committee on Inter Parliamentary Affairs.

Senator Dr. Alex Usman Kadiri chaired the negotiation between ASUU and the Federal Government, which finally led to the signing of the ASUU/FGN agreement on 30th June 2001. The eleven months old ASUU strike was called off thereafter. He worked tirelessly with the other members of Education Committee and successfully got the entire Senate to pass several bills such as the NECO Bill, the University Autonomy bill amongst others.
After leaving the Senate, Abuja, Senator ( Dr) Alex Usman Kadiri served meritoriously as the National Chairman of the Nigeria Senators Forum from 2003 to 2010.

He is a recipient of several awards such as the J. F. Kennedy Essay Competition N. E. Winner, 1968, Commonwealth Academic Scholar, United Kingdom (at the University of
Leeds) October 1974 – September 1977.
The Late Senator was an Associate Member, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (ANIPR), Member, Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM), Member Police-Public-Relations Committee, FCT.

The Late Senator (Dr.) Alex Usman Kadiri held the Igala traditional title of Ochalla Ata of Igala Kingdom.

He survived by his wife, Lady Pauline Kadiri, children, and grandchildren.

The late Senator will be buried at Odu-Ogboyaga, his home town, on Thursday, 11th July, 2024.

And, the Senate resolves as follows:
1. Observe a minute silence in honour of Late Senator (Dr.) Alex Usman Kadiri;
2. Pay condolence visit to his family at his Abuja residence
