THE BODY LEAVES TOMORROW

Hope there are no regrets now. Are you okay? If he were to call you again, would you answer and engage with him? Would you share your thoughts, and perhaps do all the things you wished you had done while he was still here? Questions like these weigh on your heart whenever such moments arise. Yet, just after the funeral service and interment, you’ll likely forget and repeat the same behavior until another person is gone forever. A deeply unfortunate cycle. Will this attitude ever change?

I challenge you today: start answering those calls. Make amends and let your conscience rest. You can live free of guilt, but only if you choose to.

The truth is, he was fair and upright with everyone he encountered. To each person, he was what they needed him to be. A refined and principled gentleman, he responded to life with wisdom and poise. His intelligence was unmatched, particularly his psychological insight into people. He never shortchanged anyone; he gave back whatever was given to him.

Sadly, his fairness was also his greatest weakness. Many exploited his silence, knowing he would not defend himself, even against heavy criticism, blackmail, or name-calling. He bore the blame for everything, always the “bad guy.” Perhaps they are happy now that he is leaving forever.

But the most painful question remains: how did you treat him? You shared a personal relationship with him, yet you ignored him and chose to prioritize your convenience. You had excuses every day for letting him down, and you were perfectly comfortable with it. Now, it’s over, isn’t it?

Look at you now—well-dressed and prepared for his funeral, as if guilt does not weigh on you. You’re ready to pay your “last respects,” but did you truly care for him while he was alive? Ironically, he is leaving like a celebrated man, with his funeral broadcast for all to see. Yet I ask again: while he was here, did you care?

As his body is laid to rest, people will gather worldwide to bid him farewell. They will pray, confess, and make lofty promises to be better people. But when the occasion ends on December 31st, they will slowly revert to their old ways. Such is life.

From January 1st, you will have another chance—not with 2024, as it will be gone forever, but with 2025. When it comes, answer its calls. Treat it with care and make the most of it. It, too, is designed to give back whatever you invest in it.

Life.
