The year 2027 is so far yet so close that those with high political ambitions are already having lots of sleepiness nights. Ironically, in all of the pushes and calculations, lessons of the past are often forgotten until they repeat again – “power belongs to God after all”.
For the 2027 election circle, Kogi East Senatorial Seat is a very sensitive position that should be a great concern to citizens of the area. With the way the nation is moving politically, the good people of Kogi East should begin to ask themselves what they actually want and the direction they need to follow. Our topics for political discussions need to be broadened at this point. Unlike in the past, our discussions should be holistic and unlimited. Our focus should go beyond self and ego in 2027. We should be focusing more on the collective interest of the entire area and not individual’s.
It’s really marveling the filters coming from many quarters at this time in our political situation; That some are mainly focused on displacing the current occupier of the Kogi East Senatorial Seat, Senator Jibrin Isah (Echocho). They are not discussing issues like what they can do better or differently but just to get Echocho off the seat – this is more of political witchcraft than pursuing what is of the people’s good. It will be erroneous to make Echocho the goal of any political pursuit or topic of discussion at this critical times. And, even worst is if the people of Kogi East fail to question characters, antecedents and the missions of people seeking that office. We will all pay for it if we become sentimental and get carried away by sweet words of mouths.
All those vying for the Kogi East Senatorial Seat today have pasts that shouldn’t be ignored. If we will hypocritically treat their pasts with wave of hands, we must question their missions. There should be clarity. Let’s not go into 2027 race blindly and vague expectations powered by mere words. There should be well defined goals of what we want to achieve as a people and how to go about them. We don’t need to keep going the same way like we have always done. For different and positive results this time, we need to do things differently.
As we proceed, ask yourself what gave birth to the name “Echocho”. As you will be deciding for 2027, ask yourself when the storm begin to blow heavily which of the trees will have the strongest roots to withstand the pressure. Ask yourself who will be there in 2027 that his or her presence will be of utmost benefit to the entire Kogi East in the Nigeria equation.
As for Senator Jibrin Isah (Echocho), before his political journey, he has roots in every nook and cranny of Kogi East. There is hardly a part of the area that didn’t benefit from all the positions he had occupied in the past. Till date, many families and communities are benefitting from the support he gave them. Till this moment that many are crucifying him for his one “big sin” (communication), he is still a lifeline to many but they prefer to remain silent and see him truly crucified.
Be or not to be in 2027, Echocho will remain forever a name, a lesson and a vital story in the anal of Kogi history particularly in the Eastern axis – A man who fell so badly from a lofty place and was abandoned, forgotten and then suddenly rose again to become a factor, not by himself but by divine arrangements. For such a man, the outcome of the 2027 Kogi East Senatorial Seat may not really be for his personal interest anymore but for the people. Now, can the people begin to see through a very good political lense?
