IGALA TRADITIONAL RULERSHIP AND LEADERSHIP QUESTION.
By DAN EJIH, Esq.
It was March 5th, 2022, venue was Mohammed Buhari Civic Centre, Lokoja; the Kogi State Government amidst pomp and pageantry presented Staff of Office to shades of traditional Rulers a cross the State. The unique thing was the massive dimension, a similitude of political jamboree, but that’s not the focus here.
For some it was recognition and elevation for years of service to their Community of jurisdiction, while to others it was reward for loyalty.
This level of governance is primordially  the first since men began sociological march to civility and civics. It evolves from untainted minds of humans in free resolve to anoint leadership; King and Chief  by whatever consensus name. It was a reward for some extraordinary wisdom, charm or military prowess for internal protection or external aggression. The king or the chief won power and authority not merely because of blue bloods but for exploits. It was conferment and not grappling, that is why the institution was reverence as natural rulership.
In most contemporary and recent settings, only God can tell who god it legitimately, albeit, ACH’ÈRÈ T’OGBA.
The event of 5th March, 2022 was a celebration of mandate laden with responsibilities, that only those with wisdom of Solomon will appreciate the wait and vow to deliver and immerse their names on the sand of time.
ACH’ÈRÈ T’OGBA wishes to make a clarion call on all beneficiaries of new realm and status to prove their mettles immediately. Never has Igala Kingdom been polarized and stained with the blood of the innocent of political rubbles than now. Truth is, this generation has added bitterness in politicking to the defilement of the land that only chiefs who are prepared to be priestly can appease the gods. Until any natural ruler makes sacrifice for peace it’s sceptre in this unholy times, legitimacy and honour will continue to elude; royalty will be self- acclaimed, while jurisdiction and authority will remain fluidity.
The extant and new sub-realm must submit to the overlords of Agabaidu in Council, they must exercise restraint in quest to wield influence; they must weigh their thoughts and act within the purview of Igala interest. They must uphold their oaths of allegiance to the realm and to Igala nation first, otherwise, they can not call for reciprocation from their subjects.
They must recognize their ambassadorial role to other external Chiefdoms for purpose of building the peace within the state and across to people of Igala extractions in other states.
Most importantly, they must move swiftly to exchanging visits to traditional rulers within the Ajaokuta- Lokoja-Kotonkarfe areas for purpose of reintegration of this part of the kingdom excised by colonial arrangements, but restored by judgment of the Federal High  Court.
ACH’ÈRÈ T’OGBA to unity.
