BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE…

By ONOJA J. OKPANACHI

The dire situation doesn’t seem to concern many at the moment, but when it reaches their doorstep, they may find they can no longer visit their villages. Imagine having to consult, strategize, and pay heavily just to visit your village for holidays or any occasion due to security uncertainties. What would you do when it gets to that point?

Ignoring this disturbing trend of people being murdered in their homes is a dangerous signal that requires an urgent and appropriate response before it becomes an uncontrollable menace. At one time, the actions of these criminals were dismissed as political activity, but what about now? Were the recent victims, politicians, or can their assassination be linked to any known political affiliations? These are pressing questions, and in searching for answers, the people must rise to address this issue before it spreads and becomes an unwanted norm in our society.

This situation calls for true leaders to stand up and liberate the land through all legal means. They mustn’t wait for the election period because true leadership is needed in every aspect of our lives, not just in politics. Leaders should act now, utilize their networks, collaborate, and bring hope back to the land.

Indeed, the land urgently needs genuine leaders to step up and rescue it before evil forces exploit the situation further. It will be a regrettable situation for all if we fail to act. Now is the time for everyone to look inward and see what they can do. It’s also time for our traditional institutions to call upon the sons and daughters of the land to form a think tank that will restore peace and sanity. This is truly the time to rise and be counted for good.

Be counted, for good
