AFRICA WOMEN CONFERENCE LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT CENTRE GRADUATES FIRST SET OF STUDENTS

It was a dream come through as the first set of students from the Africa Women Conference Leadership Development Centre (AWCLDC) graduates today, Tuesday, October 8, 2024.

Speaking at the historic graduation ceremony today, Dr. Jumai Ahmadu, the Co-Convener of the Africa Women Conference said the AWCLDC is a product of the resolutions at the conference in Kigali, Rwanda in 2021. It was borne out of the critical need to address the unique challenges faced by women and youth in Africa. “We envisioned a platform not only for academic advancement, but also for the practical application of skills that will enable our graduates to thrive in various sectors and become catalysts for positive change within their communities” she emphasized.

The Africa Women Conference Leadership Development Centre is in collaboration with the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, and its esteemed Centre for Gender Studies to foster the leadership and environmental skills of African women and young people. Dr. Jumai Ahmadu appreciates the efforts of the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof A. Suleiman, who is also the chairman of AWC He4She for his commitments in ensuring the commencement of the program. Also, the current Vice Chancellor, Prof. Saadatu Liman was appreciated for sustaining the commitment and making the dream a reality. Her support is indeed a demonstration that continuity of any valuable venture in both Government and private venture is possible. Dr. Jumai Ahmadu extends AWC’s appreciations to supporters and partners like She-Forum amongst others who worked tirelessly to make the program a success.

For the graduates, it was bold steps toward becoming the leaders that Africa needs as they are equipped at the Centre with not only academic knowledge but also with invaluable life skills, critical thinking capabilities, and a strong sense of community responsibility. The graduates were charged to embrace the challenges ahead, for they will only serve to strengthen their resolve.
